A Room Fit For Royalty, For Your Little Princess
A child’s room is so much more than just a place to sleep. It’s a place to dream, to imagine, to play, learn and grow, a place to spend time with friends and their own little cosy sanctuary from the world. So creating a pleasant space that they love and inspires them is so important. And what could be lovelier for a little girl than a princess themed room? If you’re into going the fairytale royalty route, here are some things to consider!
Do you have a particular princess in mind for the theme of the room? If so, the wall colour could help tie this theme together. According to disney.wikia.com it’s yellow for Belle’s, pale blue for Cinderella, Turquoise for Ariel or Pink for Aurora. Whichever you decide to go for, choosing a very light pastel version of the colour will work best for a bedroom. That way you get the pretty colour without it looking overwhelming or making the room feel smaller. If you’re unsure or just want to keep it neutral, you can’t go far wrong with ivory or cream walls too.
We all know kids can be messy. Flooring that can easily be cleaned or doesn’t show up stains is always going to be your best bet. That way if little fingers get into your makeup or lotions in the bathroom or sneak food upstairs and it ends up over the floor it can be cleaned up without wrecking the space. Wooden floors are a good choice, put down a large rug which gives some cosiness and gives them somewhere soft to sit and play. Otherwise, choose a stain resistant carpet.
Since the bed is the main feature in any bedroom, this really is something to get right. How about a four poster bed with some pretty sheer white drapes for a gorgeous royal look? Alternatively, you could go with a novelty themed bed, you can see on sites like Cuckooland.com that there are a wide selection including a carriage themed bed which would work well for this style of bedroom. Whatever type of bed you go for, the mattress is one component to get right. Since children are lighter, it’s tempting to think they don’t need a very expensive mattress but always go with the best you can afford. Otherwise it will be much more ‘Princess and the Pea’ each night on a lumpy bed, instead of one that’s fit for a queen!
The accessories and finishing touches are what will really bring your theme to life. A chandelier light fitting will certainly give the room a royal look, as will a pretty matching lamp. Using fairy lights around the room will give a beautiful twinkly glow in the evenings when it’s time to relax and listen to bedtime stories. You could choose elegant, draping curtains at the windows, and hang framed prints on the walls of their favourite princesses.
How would you go about creating a princess themed room?
