Beat The Business Blues – 5 Stress-Busting Tips

by | Jan 15, 2019 | Business

We all get a little stressed out at times, but, for business owners, it is almost a permanent state of being. With so much to do and so little time to do it in, it’s no wonder that entrepreneurs feel the pressure. However, while this may be a common occurrence, you shouldn’t be fooled into thinking that it’s right. When stress builds, it can become overwhelming, triggering more serious mental and physical health problems. To prevent this, here are five simple stress-busting tips.

  1. Tidy Up Your Workspace

Unbeknownst to many, your working environment can have a serious impact on your mental health. Clutter is a common source of psychological stress, which means that, if your office is dirty and untidy, you’ll find it harder to focus on your work and remain productive. With that in mind, you should take the time to clear out any unnecessary junk and get all of your things organised. By taking charge of your immediate environment, you’ll instantly feel more in control.

  1. Look After Your Body

The body and mind are connected much more than most people know. While there are, of course, exceptions, you’ll generally find that the healthier you are physically, the better you feel mentally. For this reason, you should ensure you take good care of your body. This means finding time for regular exercise and heading to bed at a reasonable hour. You should also eat three nutritious meals a day and keep healthy snacks in your office for when you feel peckish.

  1. Schedule Some Time Out

When you’re a business owner, it can be incredibly difficult to stick to a schedule. After all, if there’s any sort of problem, you’ll usually be the one needed to put out the fire. That being said, you must try to take some time out occasionally. Ensure you have regular breaks throughout the day, even if that just means grabbing a coffee. You should also eat lunch away from your desk and plan fun things to do, either alone or with your family, to get your mind off work.

  1. Learn To Say “No”

Running a business means wearing several hats and juggling any number of jobs. However, it doesn’t mean doing all of the work by yourself. To take some of the pressure off, you should delegate certain tasks to others. For example, you could hire a company, like Figment, to handle your SEO needs. You can also bring on freelancers and permanent employees for other jobs. It’s also vital that you learn to say “no” to extra work when you know you already have too much on.

  1. Build A Support System

All entrepreneurs need a great support system around them. Ideally, this should include plenty of other business owners and like-minded people who understand the struggles you go through. You may even want to find yourself a mentor, to offer their support and guidance when you need it. However, it’s not just business people that can be of help. Even if they don’t understand your work, you can also open up to friends and family, as they are the ones who know you best.

Running a business is never easy, but, with the tips above, you should be able to reduce your stress.
