Top Diagnosis Tools You Should Be Using

by | Feb 14, 2019 | Life

If you are in the medical world this year and you are looking for a way to open up your own surgery in the local area, there are lots of things to consider. When you open up a medical practice you will need to have a pharmacy close by, a comfortable waiting room and a good filing system for appointments and such, but there’s more than this too.

The most important thing you need to have in your surgery is the ability to diagnose illnesses, and today we are looking at a few of the machines and tools which you can use to help diagnose simple illnesses this year.

Ultrasound

An ultrasound system is used for more than scanning for babies, it can be a powerful tool in the medical world to notice a range of different issues. For example you can use an ultrasound machine to check for cysts in a person’s gut and also look for things such as tumours and kidney stones. The beauty of this tool is that it is non invasive so it can be done within a few minutes and it can speed up the diagnosis process by a huge chunk.

Blood test

A blood test is the most commonly used test for illnesses which can’t be explained by an outside examination of a patient. Let’s say for example that a patient comes and complains of tingling in their toes and burning sensations when they walk. This is usually a sign of neuropathy, which is often caused by a deficiency in B12 or another vitamin. Testing the blood for the levels of these vitamins  and minerals can be a huge help.

Thermometer

When it comes to testing for a fever or the flu, the most common tool of all to use for patients is a thermometer. Our bodies have a process known as homeostasis which keeps our body at the right temperature at all times to keep us healthy. A raised or lowered temperature can be a sign of illness which is why we use a thermometer to check and make sure that patients are healthy and that they are within the right range. If not, treatment can be given.

Urine Sample

For those problems which involve the digestive system and the gut, the easiest test for us to do is a urine sample. This is something which can be used to test for infection, pregnancy and a whole host of other things. It is again non invasive and a simple test to do.

Peak flow

Asthma and other respiratory illnesses are more common than you might think and they are something can be pretty easily spotted by doctors. A peak flow meter is a tube which is used to see how much air a person takes in in one go and how strong their body’s peak flow is. This is something which can be used to monitor those with asthma to make sure that their medicine is working and that they are on track.
